FAQ: How do I install ringtones?

FAQ #42: Phone Use. By treo.tc. Status: Public, 19056 views. Flag for Review

There are a number of different ways.

1. If the ringtone is on a web site. Using the web browser on your Treo 600, you go to the web page that has the ringtone and click the link to download it. A window will ask you if you want to download it. Click yes. When download is complete another window will appear asking if you want to open or save the ringtone. Click save, and a save window will appear asking if you want to change the filename. Change it to whatever you wish, then click OK. You have successfully saved the ringtone to your phone.
2. If the ringtone is on your computer. In this scenario, you can e-mail the ringtone as an attachment to your Treo if your Treo's e-mail application supports attachments. Once you have the e-mail message on the treo simply select the attachment and follow the install instructions provided in number one above.
3. The ringtone is on your PC but your Treo does not have internet connectivity. In this scenario, installing the ringtone via the Web or e-mail is not possible so you'll need to get creative. If your computer has IR beaming capabilities, you could transfer the file that way or you could convert the file into a .pdb and use the Palm Desktop Installer to synchronize the file to your Treo. This method requires additional software to convert the midi however and is very time consuming. We recommend that users try all other methods first but if all else fails you can find detailed instructions here.
