Lack of Volume and Sound Quality an Immediate Deal Breaker
I was so hopeful when I read the review on this app. I have tried every Windows Mobile sound app out there and I frequently check for updates. I have Windows Media Player 10 on my WM6 Treo 750. Although functionally sound, Media Player's interface is a study on how not to build a music player. So every time I go back to the old faithful (and free) TCPMP (version .72RC1 becuase it plays YouTube videos). OK, back to Pocket Tunes. Interface is pleasing. So I immediately wanted to see how easy it is to find and play songs on my 8GB storage card. The first annoying thing is that PT immediately wants to search your entire device for every audio file you owm. So it put a lot of my voice memos in the library...exactly what I didn't want. You can go into the options and turn it off. but this shouldn't be on by default. Now to the volume issue. So i fired up a few songs and could hardly hear them through my external speaker. So Iturned the volume in PT up to 100%. Still not very loud. Then I turned the Treo system volume up to 100%. i could hear it, but not nearly enough to enjoy it through the speaker. So I found a setting in the preferences to pump up the volume. Even after maximizing the setting the volume was still noticeably low. And the quality at this level was very unacceptable. Just to make sure something was not wrong I fired up the same song on TCPMP. i can achieve PT's loudest setting at the 25% level in TCPMP. And the sound quality in TCPMP (with its excellent equalizer) far exceeds that of PT. The fact that I can also stream radio, play movies and almost any audio format for free makes it hard for me to see people paying $15 for this software, much less the ridiculous cost of $37.95. Please try the trial version of this before wasting your money. Download the free TCPMP for comparison. Heck, even the volume and quality in Media Player is better than this app. Too bad. I was excited for about 5 minutes.
