A big thanks to Dave for writing in and letting us know that Palm has just released a ROM update for the Treo 755p on Verizon.Palm's Support site states that this update is a tune-up that improves the phone application, stability and device usability.
I've read in the TreoCentral forums about Verizon 755p owners having problems with their device lagging and with Bluetooth dropping and reconnecting. I'm sure there are many other threads but this is the first one that I came to.
Below is a post by forum member AMVMommy, and is good example of some of the problems Verizon 755p owners are experiencing:
I live in the middle of Atlanta with Verizon towers galore - always have a very strong signal. However I get a lag with calls, with reading an ebook, with using the web, locating contacts, trying to answer or end a call, connecting to the bluetooth in my car, playing a game, etc. I end up waiting about 10 - 15 seconds every time. EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I do not think it has anything to do with cell towers. Perhaps it is the Verizon Syncing service or something. I can tell when Versamail is checking and it is much more than that. I am so frustrated with this phone that I want to scream. I had the 650 forever with Verizon and never had this problem. I've been very disappointed with the 755P.
To see if you need the update, press Phone on your Treo 755p. Then press Menu. From the Options menu, select Phone Info.
Next look for the Software item. If the version number is lower than 1.08 and the end of the string says VZW, you should install this update.
Before you start
- Install this software on a Treo 755p for Verizon only. The update will not work on any other Treo smartphones.
- Allow an hour for this update, preferably at a time when you won�t be interrupted by phone calls or text messages.
- Be prepared to back up your data before the update and restore it after. The updater itself will take approximately 45 minutes.
- Plug your smartphone into its AC charger and keep it plugged in throughout the update.
- Keep an eye on your smartphone during the update. Respond to prompts and alerts in a timely manner.

- Important: Settings for some applications such as IM are not retained after update process. You will need to re-enter your user data. If you use Email (VersaMail) remember to re-enter your email account password(s).
