Microsoft to steal Handsprings thunder?

Mon Sep 15, 2003 - 12:42 AM EDT - By Michael Ducker

Microsoft/Motorola have got the press talking with the launch of their new MPx200 Windows Mobile Smartphone. Links to info at NYTimes, CRN, and the press release. Detailed specifications are at Smartphone Thoughts. It is a dualband GSM phone with SD slot, and will be available Q4 on AT&T.

So why is this important to Treo users? As you may recall The Register reported last week that the Treo might launch this week. In the CRN article above that statement is also repeated. If Handspring chooses to launch this week, they will be competeing for the public eye with Microsoft - basically Microsoft might have stolen their release thunder. That is though, only if they were planning to release this week. Not only that, Microsoft is really pushing their Smartphone platform in Europe, and one could say they are Handspring's biggest competitor.

If anyone reading this has any inside information on Treo 600 release dates, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]
