Treo 600

Fri Jan 2, 2004 - 1:23 AM EST - By Michael Ducker

Inside the Box

The GSM Treo 600 box carries over the same two-color scheme that Handspring launched with the debut of the Treo, however it the first Handspring box to not have a photo of the device anywhere on the box. On the back are details in five languages, and drawings of the unit. On the side is the usual sticker that has UPC, serial number, and IMEI number. This part of the box is real helpful to keep for the future.

Inside the Treo 600 box is a plastic tray containing the fairly thick user manual, and the installation CD. The manual is a fairly standard Palm OS manual, going over basics of how to use the programs, and the phone. It is creatively divided up into days, perhaps making it easier for newer users to pace their learning of Palm OS. The Treo 600 synchronizes with Apple OS 10.1 , and Windows 95 and above (Windows 95 and NT 4 require a separate serial cable to sync). The Installation CD contains Palm Desktop for OS X and Windows. The bonus applications are only available on the Windows partition of the CD.

Under the plastic tray are three compartments. The first one on the left has the Treo 600 slipcase, and the Treo 600 itself wrapped in plastic. The middle compartment holds the sync cable, and the last compartment contains the AC adapter and headset. There will be more on the included accessories later. I had no trouble setting up the Treo 600; it recognized my T-Mobile SIM and set up GPRS for me, and it synced perfectly with both iSync and Palm Desktop on my Mac, and Palm Desktop on my Windows machine. The Sprint Treo 600 has the same inside packaging; however the box is more retail friendly, with a large color photo of the black and silver Sprint Treo 600.
