fring

There are choices aplenty for communicating via the Internet with your friends and loved ones these days, each with its own advantages and feature sets. There are the traditional chat clients like MSN Messenger and Google Talk. There are apps like Twitter and Facebook for keeping up on what your friends are doing. Skype is another popular app for video and voice chat over the Internet. One thing all of these apps have in common is they are FREE. I like free. Free fits into my budget really well during these challenging economic times.

If you like the features and potential cost-savings of the aforementioned apps, then you should take a close look at fring, a FREE mobile VoIP (Voice over IP) app that enables you to talk and live chat using your phone's Internet connection, like Wi-Fi or GPRS, EDGE and 3G. With fring, you avoid using precious airtime minutes.

Not only can you create your own fring user name for chat, but fring is also compatible with Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, Twitter, Facebook, and your own regular phone contacts. With fring, you can make cheap VoIP calls to other contacts' PCs, mobile phones and landline numbers, whether it's local, long distance, or even international.

Another advantage to using fring is that it requires no special software or hardware. All you need is a 3G handset with Internet connectivity, whether it's Internet provided through your cellular phone service or via Wi-Fi. fring uses a patent-pending peer-to-peer mobile VoIP technology with rich internet functionality, maximum network efficiency by seamlessly roaming between Wi-Fi and 3G networks, all with full-duplex voice quality.

Some new features now included with fring are file transfer functionality and new add-ons, like receiving Gmail notifications. This app is free and seems to be well supported with new updates as recent as Jan. 6, 2009. If you want to try VoIP on your Windows Mobile Treo smartphone, then give fring a try today. It's free and available for download at www.freewareppc.com.
