Palm's Treo 750 is Official

Sun Jan 7, 2007 - 6:22 PM EST - By Jennifer Chappell

Multimedia

The Treo 750 has rich multimedia capabilites built into the Windows Mobile platform such as the 1.3 megapixel camera with which you can take great quality still photos as well as videos and send them to family and friends via and MMS or email.

There is also the Windows Media Player Mobile that plays MP3s as well as streaming audio and video.

The Palm Desktop software automatically converts compatible audio or video files to mobile format so they're easy to grab and go.

Features and Specifications

Let's look at the 750's hardware features now. The Treo 750 looks very much like the 680. They both share similar hardware features such as the internal antenna, the square five-way navigator, and the stylus on the back.

The five-way navigator provides a wonderful one-handed experience on the Treo 750.

Two new hardware features on the 750 are the soft-touch finish and a miniSD card slot. Unlike the Treo 680 which has a 320x320 TFT touchscreen, the 750 has a 240x240 TFT touchscreen.

Below are some of the specs of the Treo 750:

  • Camera: 1.3 megapixel digital video camera with self-portrait mirror

  • Communications: Built-in Bluetooth 1.2. Supports stereo Bluetooth headsets. Can listen to music and when a call comes in, the music stops so you can take the call.

  • Memory: 128MB/60MB nonvolatile memory available to user

  • Operating System: Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition

  • Battery: Removable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, 4 hours talk time with up to 250 hours standby

  • Processor: Samsung 300MHz

  • Size/weight: 4.4" x 2.3" x 0.8" 5.4 ounces (14% lighter than the Treo 650)

  • Keyboard: Built-in backlit QWERTY keyboard, plus 5-way navigator

  • Expansion: miniSD card slot can use memory cards up to 2GB

  • Display: Bright 240x240 TFT touchscreen

Palm did not include WiFi with the Treo 750. Palm says that WiFi would draw a lot of power from the battery. Fortunately, in our testing the Spectec MiniSD WiFi card works just fine.

Although the Treo 750 is a UMTS device and is capable of supporting HSDPA, HSDPA is not enabled. Palm will be working with Cingular in terms of launching a maintenance release in the future to be able to support HSDPA capabilities on the Cingular network.

The Treo 750 doesn't come in a variety of colors like the Treo 680. This is because the 750 is geared towards business customers whereas the 680 was geared towards a differnt demographic.

    Pricing and Availability

The Treo 750 will be available January 8th for consumers and businesses at Cingular Wireless retail stores, www.cingular.com, Cingular B2B sales team, and www.palm.com.

The suggested retail price is $399.99 with a two-year contract and a mail-in rebate.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go to those above websites right now or head over to your Cingular Wireless retail store tomorrow and get one! Don't slip on your drool on the way out. Trust me, if I hadn't just received a new Treo 680 for Christmas, I'd be the first one in line at my local Cingular store tomorrow! ;-)
