Round Robin: TreoCentral iPhone 3G Video 1st Look

Wed Dec 17, 2008 - 10:28 PM EST - By Jennifer Chappell

Overview

Welcome back to the Smartphone Round Robin! Here we are in round 4 and I've got the Apple iPhone 3G. I bought my own iPhone 3G almost a month ago and have been wanting to get my hands on it, but rules are rules, and I didn't mess with it until it was my turn in the Round Robin. Well, I tested it by sending a text message to my friend Corely who sold me the iPhone over at the AT&T store. Hey Corely!

I had the first generation iPhone and really liked it but felt that I wasn't using the phone function that much so gave the iPhone to my Mom and got myself an iPod Touch. I actually found myself missing the phone and the camera of the iPhone and the ability to get online when I wasn't in a Wi-Fi area. So of course the gadget freak in me starting itching for an iPhone 3G after awhile and I gave in. And I'm glad that I did. I really like the look of the new iPhone and it feels great in the hand with that curved back. The glossy suface on the back does show fingerprints but not nearly as bad as the back of the iPod Touch.

One of the differences between the first generation iPhone and the iPhone 3G is the 3G of course. And as I've already said many times, I don't have 3G in my area yet, but I saw on AT&T's coverage map that 3G is coming my way. Hopefully I'll have 3G here soon. In the meantime, I'll use the Wi-Fi at home and whenever I'm in a Wi-Fi access area.

I like the new GPS feature of the iPhone 3G too. Even though you don't get turn by turn directions, it's still nice. I still haven't checked out the Street View yet, but am going to soon.

Watching videos and viewing photos on the iPhone 3G is a wonderful experience. The screen quality is just fantastic. People are so amazed at the bright and sharp picture on the screen.

I've been loading up lots of apps on the iPhone 3G and having fun playing new games and checking out silly apps too.

When I first started to do this video, my throat was very sore and my voice was cracking up so I'm sorry for the poor quality. I recorded part of the sound ahead of time because I was afraid that I might lose my voice. But my throat got better the next day, thank goodness, and I was able to go ahead and record while filming. LOL, you can tell a big difference from one day to the next.

Head on over to our forums and discuss this video for your chance to be entered into our contest. Each day that you comment in the forums, you're automatically entered. We're giving away a Palm Treo Pro, sponsored by Palm.

You can read the full contest rules here and also check out the latest updates.

I'll be back soon with my full review of the iPhone 3G.
