Review: Chapura Echo for Palm Desktop

Wed Sep 16, 2009 - 3:18 PM EDT - By Annie Latham

PC Magazine's Jamie Lendino took a look at Chapura Echo for Palm Desktop 6.2.2. This program takes the hassle out of syncing a Palm Pre with Palm Desktop. It provides complete two-way synchronization transfers essential information between the Palm Desktop Date Book and Address Book and the corresponding Pre applications. And it uses WiFi, which is a real plus.

Here's what he had to say:

"Anyone who used a USB cable with their old Treo can ditch it for good. In a series of tests, I added and deleted various contacts and calendar events in both Palm Desktop and on the Pre, and ran numerous syncs in both directions. Everything worked as expected, including repeating events, as well as contacts with different numbers of fields filled out. Wireless syncs were also quite fast."

He concluded with:

"Chapura Echo is a slick product, but it's also a niche product. The company offers a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money back guarantee; while the app is quite expensive, at least you'll know if it works for you before forking over cash. If you're considering a Pre, I'd still recommend permanently moving your PIM data from Palm Desktop to Google, Outlook, or some other system that's friendlier with today's technology. But for those who stuck with Palm Desktop for years and aren't about to leave now, Chapura Echo does the trick."

The $29.95 Chapura Echo for Palm Desktop is available for download at www.chapura.com/csm. The handheld version is available through the Palm App Catalog.

Note: There is no Mac version.
